Our Work in the North

Every project here tells a story - sometimes it's about battling -40 degree winters, other times it's figuring out how to pour concrete when the ground's frozen solid for eight months straight. We've learned that designing for the north isn't just technical stuff... it's about understanding how people actually live up there.

Selected Projects

A collection of builds that pushed us, taught us something new, or just turned out really damn well

Yellowknife Community Hub

Yellowknife Community Hub

We designed this gathering space to handle everything from -50C winters to summer festivals. The triple-glazed south wall? That was a bit of a gamble but it cut heating costs by 40%.

Whitehorse Residence

Whitehorse Residence

Client wanted big windows for those northern lights views. Took us six months to spec the right glazing system.

Iqaluit Research Station

Iqaluit Research Station

Built on permafrost - every support had to be individually calculated. The geology folks still send us thank-you notes about the lab design.

Fort McMurray Heritage Building

Fort McMurray Heritage Restoration

This 1920s trading post survived a lot. We brought it back while keeping its soul intact - that original timber frame is still holding strong.

Inuvik School Expansion

Inuvik School Expansion

Kids need daylight even when the sun doesn't show up for weeks. Our light well design brought natural illumination deep into the building.

Norman Wells Housing Complex

Norman Wells Housing Complex

Affordable housing that doesn't cost a fortune to heat - that was the challenge. We integrated geothermal where everyone said it couldn't be done.

Tuktoyaktuk Processing Facility

Tuktoyaktuk Processing Facility

Industrial doesn't have to mean ugly. This facility processes fish year-round and the locals actually like how it looks from the shore.

Dawson City Off-Grid Home

Dawson City Off-Grid Home

Completely off-grid in the Yukon? Yeah, it's possible. Solar + thermal mass + really good insulation = cozy winters without power lines.

Residential 2023
Cambridge Bay Cultural Center

Cambridge Bay Cultural Center

Worked closely with Inuit elders on this one - they taught us more about cold climate design than any textbook ever did. The curved roof sheds snow naturally.

Rankin Inlet Wellness Center

Rankin Inlet Wellness Center

Healthcare in remote communities is critical. This center incorporates traditional healing spaces alongside modern medical facilities - and it's built to last a century in harsh conditions.

We've learned a lot from working in places where standard building practices just don't cut it. Whether you're planning something in the territories or just dealing with serious cold, let's talk about what's actually gonna work for your site.
